The wedding is in a pasture, so I don't want a dress with a train. And I'm also wanting a dress with black accents. But the main question is what type of dress do I look for that doesnt have a train?

Answer
Look for a tea length wedding dress! It's still long, but not long enough to drag in the grass!

How close to the wedding are we suposed to have the bridal shower or wedding shower?

My wedding is in early August and I want to have my bridal shower at the end of April. Is that too soon. When should i have it? Are bridal showers and wedding showers the same thing? I dont know how these things work, help me out a little. Its my first time.Is there a rule to these things?

Answer
A shower is not organized or planned or scheduled by the Bride.

So, let's start take a giant step backwards and do it the right way.

Neither the Bride nor the Bride's Mother nor the Groom's Mother nor any sisters or sister-in-laws should host (plan, organize or pay for) a shower. It is a form of solicitation and inappropriate. Many people use the terms wedding and bridal shower interchangeably but usually a bridal shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride" and a wedding shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride and Groom."

A shower is usually hosted by the Maid or Matron of Honor UNLESS she is an immediate member of the family. If the Maid of Honor is the Bride's sister then one of the bridesmaids should host the shower (with the other bridal party members helping her).

A shower is supposed to be an intimate gathering of the Bride and Groom's co-workers, family members and/or close friends. It is NOT a gift unwrapping marathon for 99 people at the local Holiday Inn for six hours that includes lots of cocktails and a U-Haul truck to take away the gifts.

The shower should take place at least 30 DAYS before the wedding date because there are so many things to do in that last 30 day time period.

Printed invitations should be mailed out at least three weeks in advance of the party with a RSVP (at least seven days before the party) so the hostess know how many people are attending. The party invitation can include the location (s) of the Bride and Groom's wedding registry (this is the only place it is appropriate).

A shower can have a theme, here's a few examples: kitchen and bath, time of day, lingerie, and honeymoon.

A shower can take place at someone's home on a Monday night at 7PM or at the local pizza place on a Sunday afternoon at 1PM.

And the food can be as simple as vegetables and dip or as elaborate as a three course tea party followed by a decorated sheet cake.

The decorations can be as simple as a bouquet of the Bride's favorite flowers to yards and yards of white tulle, paper wedding bells, and balloons.

Traditionally, the shower is a SURPRISE for the Bride UNLESS she lives far, far away and then a different set of rules applies.

How long after your civil wedding did you have your religious wedding?

Q. I had my civil wedding ceremony almost 10 years ago. This summer after my husband gets back from deployment, were having our religious wedding ceremony. I can't wait to wear my new wedding dress. So how long after your civil wedding did you have your religious wedding?

Answer
some people are just so unromantic

call it a wedding, call it a vow renewal,it doesnt really matter - the intent is the same

im having a destination wedding and when we get back we may have a blessing of some kind followed by a reception (its just a big party, whatever you call it!),this will be within a year of the actual wedding ceremony and its going to be a show with our photos on display and our wedding video shown as well

lots of couples are now opting for a second wedding on a special anniversary,so i think close to your 10th wedding anniversary would be brilliant - a lot of the time an eternity ring can be given at this time,or other piece of jewellery if so desired (or if an eternity ring has been given).while not leaglly recognised, some churches will issue a vow renewal certificate

i read a story about a couple who re-affirm their vows every couple of years - they say it makes them realise how much they have and remind them not to take each other for granted

wishing you all the best and congratulations on your upcoming service :)

do have a catholic wedding do you have to get married in a church?

rlyni

I'm planning my friends wedding and her cousin is a priest who they'd like to have conduct the vows.

They want a catholic wedding, one honored by the church, but they want to have a outdoor wedding as well. As Catholic's are we allowed to be wed outside the church or does it need to be in a church in order to have your wedding blessed by the church?

Answer
In order for it to be a Catholic wedding and seen as a marriage by the Catholic church, you must be married in a Catholic church. Because of the strong stance the Catholic church has on weddings, your friend's cousin will not be able to perform the ceremony or even appear there as a priest unless it is in a church.

I had some very dear friends of mine be excommunicated for "living in sin" because their marriage wasn't performed in a church. They had it in a nondenominational chapel of a location that meant a great deal to them. It didn't make any difference to the church. They were still considered to not be married.

Your friend needs to decide what is more important, an outdoor wedding, or a Catholic wedding.

Good luck.

How did your wedding cake taste on your first anniversary?

Ms. X

For those who saved some wedding cake for your first anniversary, how did it taste? Freezer burn? So awful you had to throw it away? Almost as good as at the wedding? Just as good as at the wedding?

My husband and I decided not to save any as my husband didn't like the idea of eating year-old cake. And that didn't sound very appealing to me either.

Answer
ACK!!!!!!!!

With my first wedding/marriage I unwrapped the cake and took one whiff of freezer burn..and trashed it lol.

With my second wedding/marriage...well I am a retired professional baker and our cake was a carrot cake with cream cheese icing- a fav of ours and ALL our guests....I had the entire cake served.....not a piece was left.

Then for our anniversaries I make a small replica of our original cake...so fresh and tasty...and labor of love on my part.

Cake rarely makes it past 4-6 months in the freezer and many icings/fillings can NOT be frozen without a disastrous result..one year? No thank you. As a former baker I am very picky....taste is all important to me, along with presentation.

BTW, grocery stores like Walmart, Kroger's, etc who have bakeries and offer sheet cakes, etc do NOT bake their own cake or make their own icings...they come in frozen and are stored in their deep freezer until needed, then thawed and assembled...I did a stint in such a bakery ( I made their scratch bread, donuts, bagels, rolls, etc but the cake and some icings were frozen and shipped in) we NEVER kept or used cake that had been in the freezer longer than 6 months.

Good luck.

BTW, grocery stores like Walmart, Kroger's, etc who have bakeries and offer sheet cakes, etc do NOT bake their own cake or make their own icings...they come in frozen and are stored in their deep freezer until needed, then thawed and assembled...I did a stint in such a bakery ( I made their scratch bread, donuts, bagels, rolls, etc but the cake and some icings were frozen and shipped in) we NEVER kept or used cake that had been in the freezer longer than 6 months.

we never had a wedding, just the court house. My husband says since we're already married we can't have a wedding. I disagree, because we have the marriage, but never had a wedding or a honeymoon. How should the ceremony go. Can we still get married in catholic church?

Answer
You can still have a wedding its renewing the vows. My hubby and I got married in vegas and everything for something quick and fun. Now almost 2 years later we are going to have our renewing of the vows which to everyone whom did not come to our little wedding (which is the whole family) will get to be apart of it no matter what. You can choose to renew your vows anywhere and can change them how you seem fit. We are writing our own vows and everything and are going to have fun with this wedding and actually have a honeymoon. (didnt have one either even though we were in vegas, plus he had to leave for iraq)

In all just plan your renewing just like you would have your real wedding and remember to have fun.

ps dont listen to the person above me, you dont have to move one with your life, the furture is there for a reason, so make the most of it.

How do wedding and engagement rings work?

Why are there 2 rings (engagement and wedding) wouldnt that be extremely expensive?

Does the guy get an engagement ring too, or is the just the girl?

Does the girl have to buy the guys wedding ring?

Does the couple shop for the wedding rings together?

Also, isn't there an engagement/wedding ring that is like 2 pieces, and when the wedding comes you get the 2nd piece?

Answer
Q - Is the engagment ring traditionally more expensive, or cheaper than the wedding ring?
A - The engagement ring is more expensive. Traditionally the man is supposed to spend 3 months salary on one, but that isn't really done as much these days.

Q - Why are there 2 rings (engagement and wedding) wouldnt that be extremely expensive?
A - Most engagement rings & wedding bands can be bought in a set to save money & then the rings will also match. There doesn't always have to be an engagement ring, but it's just grown to be a custom. When people mention being engaged everyone always wants to see the engagement ring. The wedding band speaks for itself.

Q - Does the guy get an engagement ring too, or is the just the girl?
A - Guys can have an engagement ring too. It's not tradition but it is becoming more popular lately. When I got engaged I bought my fiance a nice ring. Was nothing fancy cause it would just get damaged at work.

Q - Does the girl have to buy the guys wedding ring?
Usually the bride does buy the grooms ring. I think traditionally the grooms parents buy the wedding bands but not all traditional customs are followed thru on anymore.

Q - Does the couple shop for the wedding rings together?
Most of the time, yes. A lot of couples like to have matching rings therefore they'd shop together. But it can always be kept a surprise too.

Q - Also, isn't there an engagement/wedding ring that is like 2 pieces, and when the wedding comes you get the 2nd piece?
Yes, thats a bridal set. Engagement rings come in all shapes & sizes these days so the wedding band is made to fit perfectly with it. My engagement ring is princess cut & the matching wedding band has a square groove in it to fit perfectly. My sisters wedding band is curved to fit in with her wavy styled engagement ring.

What wedding color scheme would go with an off white dress?

Mandy

For a wedding dress that's not white, more like an off white or cream color with lace, what color scheme would go best together? No pink, yellow or purple. The wedding would be in the spring or summer. Any ideas?

Answer
Because off-white/ivory/cream are all neutrals, ANY color scheme will go with the dress.

My dress was ivory, and our colors were chocolate brown, burnt orange, silver, and my bouquet was pink; it all looked lovely next to my ivory dress.

For a spring wedding, most think of lighter shades/hues; for a summer wedding, most think of a brighter shades/hues. You really can do whatever you like. The Knot (www.theknot.com) has pictures for either season for inspiration.
